California Fishing Lakes

California fishing lakes are abundant in every area of the state. Actually, California has more than 3000 lakes, streams, reservoirs and other bodies of water available to the avid angler. With all that water, it is no problem to find a nice, quiet lake to relax next to, cast a line in and catch your dinner.

Anywhere you go in the state of California, a fishing lake is never far away. From Lake Almanor near Chester in the north to Silverwood Lake near San Bernardino in the south, great fishing is always right at your fingertips. Here are a few selected highlights:

Northern California fishing lakes

Lake Almanor near Chester, California is known for tremendous trout fishing. It is common for anglers to land their limit in a couple of hours. I am talking about 3, 4 or even 5 pound rainbow trout. If you practice catch & release, you could fish all day and catch all the trout you can handle. Never a boring moment fishing on Lake Almanor.

Nestled in the Tahoe National Forest near to Sierra City, California is Sardine Lake. This pristine California fishing lake is divided into upper and lower portions. Upper Sardine Lake is a notable fishing spot in it’s own right, yet Lower Sardine Lake is a pristine fishing nirvana with no swimming allowed. It is said that you can see to the bottom on a sunny day and “it is like fishing in an aquarium”.

Central California fishing lakes

If bass is your favorite fish, try Bass Lake near Oakhurst, California. The name says it all! Bass are the fish of the day in this lovely lake in close proximity to Yosemite National Park. You can enjoy a visit to Old Faithful and then land a trophy bass. Nice place to vacation.

Near Kernville, California, you will find Lake Isabella. This lake is a bit different in that it has less foliage and shade trees. It gets pretty hot up here at an elevation of almost 2600 feet. Fishing is always good here and you can get to the Sequoia National Forest in minutes to totally “get away”.

Southern California fishing lakes

Big Bear Lake is one of the most popular fishing lakes in California. Located near Big Bear City, the promise of great fishing is a sure bet. At an elevation of nearly 7000 feet, Big Bear Lake offers a variety of fish for every angler.

Right around the corner from Big Bear Lake is a small pristine lake called Green Valley Lake. Being very small, Green Valley Lake does not allow motorized boats so the fish are not skittish. Offering a variety of fish, any angler will be happy to throw a line into this beautiful California fishing lake.

These are only a sampling of the great fishing lakes available in California. There are many more to choose from and all offer beautiful scenery, quiet times and complete relaxation for all who venture in. California fishing lakes are plentiful and waiting to receive you as the next one to land the big one!

Good fishing to you!
